What is Gro-Mulch?

Gro-Mulch is a specially treated 100 grammes per square metre paper made from 100% recycled fibres. A permeable ground covering material, it can be mechanically laid for hand planting or used with transplanters. Its primary function is the suppression of weeds as an alternative to herbicides.

Trials have shown that it will withstand the elements during a typical UK growing season and, at the point of harvest, can be incorporated into the soil. Once buried it decomposes more rapidly than most other vegetable matter.

Testing for any possible detrimental effects on soil chemistry has shown that Gro-Mulch can be used with absolute confidence, and there is no detrimental effect on soil or crop safety whatsoever.

Salad crops

Trials have shown consistent improvements in the uniformity of the crop, with no checking from herbicides. Valuable improvements in cleanliness have also led to a more marketable crop. Problems of selecting an effective herbicide have led some growers to a regime of sterilisation and hand weeding. With no need for this, Gro-Mulch allows faster cropping cycles and reduced labour costs.
